Pipe size finder

Find your minimum pipe size

Enter the total BTU rating of everything on the line and the length of the run. The finder reads the same tables printed below.

Gas type

Pipe length must include additional length for all fittings. Add approximately 5 feet of pipe per fitting. The finder adds 5 ft per fitting for you.

Minimum pipe size

1-1/4"

Rated 569,000 BTU/hr at the 20 ft row.

  • Pipe length must include additional length for all fittings. Add approximately 5 feet of pipe per fitting.
  • Natural gas flow is given in thousands of BTU/hr. One cubic foot of natural gas is about 1,000 BTU.
  • Nominal pressure at the burner for natural gas is 3.5" of water column (typical supply 5" to 7").
  • Example: a burner that requires 440,000 BTU needs a 1-1/4" pipe for a 20 ft run (highlighted above).

  • Pipe length must include additional length for all fittings. Add approximately 5 feet of pipe per fitting.
  • Liquid propane flow is given in thousands of BTU/hr. One cubic foot of propane is about 2,516 BTU.
  • This chart is for low-pressure LP after regulation. Standard nominal pressure at the burner for propane is 11" of water column.
  • Example: a burner that requires 440,000 BTU needs a 1" pipe for a 20 ft run (highlighted above).
